i am looking at building a pc, prefer AMD based, look to spend about $350
i already have a monitor.
question is, where is a good place to buy computer parts online. i see newegg come up a lot, is that a relativly good/bad experience ?

also, my main concern for a desktop pc is reliability. i dont do hard core gaming, just some scripting, office, simple multimedia, (mplayer, xmms maybe dvd)
what is a good name brand for a motherboard, i need graphics, sound, lan etc, all the usual stuff.

Well the best place to start is of course Pricewatch.. shop around.. atleast get an idea of what the *best* price is..

I used to try to get the best prices and order each part from all over if needed, however now I pretty well have about 3 sites that get my business for normal stuff.. Newegg gets the most.. They handle returns and rmas fast and without hassle, also I have never seen anyone ship so fast so consistantly.. Ive never had a problem and have been buying there for about ... 3 or 4 years ? somthing like that..

I mostly shop online from newegg.com and CompGeeks , you can sometimes find very good used/refurbished products besides new on compgeeks site.

As most have mentioned, NewEgg is excellent. I've bought several times from them without incident. I also buy frequently from Buy.com. Between those two stores, you can usually get the cheapest prices and free shipping (unless it's a very heavy item).

I use PriceScan (www.pricescan.com) to check for deals. When I see they're the cheapest, I sometimes buy from a few other stores, like Outpost.com and Mwave.com. PriceScan has vendor ratings on their site, so usually anyone that's in the 4 stars area should be perfectly fine to buy from.

In all honesty, though, you could probably shop on Newegg and Buy.com and get everything you need. Combine all your purchases into one bulk order from each store (or from just one store) and you'll probably pay no shipping and get it dirt cheap.

ok, cool. Looks very much like newegg has about everything i could look for. And i think i would rather get everything from one spot, even if i have to pay a couple extra bucks to do so.
Any suggestions on motherboard brand names ? i am running an Azus right now, with a 2.8 ghz Sempron, seems to be doing ok so far. i do also like that newegg posts user reviews too.
