Make sure the motherboard BIOS is enabled for the IDE channel where the drive is connected.

Look at the ouput of the dmesg command
dmesg | grep CD (Use Capital CD)

linux is case sensitive. Did you use a capital CD

From my PC:
Quote:
dmesg | grep CD
hdc: SAMSUNG SC-140B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: ATAPI 40X CD-ROM drive, 128kB Cache, UDMA(33)
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.12
Look at the complete output of the dmesg command. Do you see any messages on the drive?

Me, too!

I think I have the same problem. Everything worked fine in MDK 9.2. Upgraded to 10.0 and now CD won"t mount properly. dmesg on my machine.

[david@davids david]$ dmesg | grep CD
hdc: PLEXTOR DVDR PX-712A, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: ATAPI 40X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW CD-MRW drive, 8192kB Cache, UDMA(33)
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20

And here is my fstab.

[david@davids david]$ cat /etc/fstab
/dev/hda5 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb1 /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hda9 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom2 iso9660 umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto defaults 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs ro,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/win_c2 vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hda6 /mnt/win_d vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda8 /usr ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hda7 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb3 swap swap defaults 0 0

And here is what I get when I run mount. As you might quess from my login, I am just a putzer that likes to try different things and sometimes I get lost.

[david@davids david]$ mount
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part5 on / type ext3 (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
none on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw)
none on /dev type devfs (rw)
none on /sys type sysfs (rw)
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target1/lun0/part1 on /boot type ext3 (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,mode=0620)
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part9 on /home type ext3 (rw)
none on /mnt/floppy type supermount (rw,sync,dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850)
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 on /mnt/win_c type ntfs (ro,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0)
/dev/ide/host0/bus1/target1/lun0/part1 on /mnt/win_c2 type vfat (rw,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850)
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part6 on /mnt/win_d type vfat (rw,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850)
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part8 on /usr type ext3 (rw)

I also have the following file in /etc, and I am not quite sure just what it does.

[david@davids david]$ cat /etc/fstab.mdkgiorig
/dev/hda5 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdb1 /boot ext3 defaults 1 2
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hda9 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs ro,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0 0 0
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/win_c2 vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
/dev/hda6 /mnt/win_d vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda8 /usr ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hda7 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb3 swap swap defaults 0 0

I have done due diligence in searching forums for info, and think I am kinda stuck. Hope this is proper place for this.
