When I copy the CD/DVD to HD, the laptop power down

If I copy all the data from CD or DVD to HD then my computer just power down. Neither the light of the energy is on. I have to wait for some minutes if I want to turn on the computer again. This problems is just with linux. With the windows I don't have any problem.
This is my second laptop with the same problem. The first one, after two days it didn't turn on.
Is it a hardware problem or a software problem?

Welcome to LQ!

Sounds like it is overheating. You need ACPI to work and your fan to turn on, if that's the case.

Look under /proc/acpi/ to see if you have a directory called thermal_zone (or similar), fan, etc.

Also look for your laptop at LQ's HCL, TuxMobil and Linux on Laptops. You might find the experience of others to be helpful.
