when ac adaptor not plugged in my laptop freezes

i don't understand why it does it, but it does. it seems everytime i take my laptop to class and i try to boot into it, it boots fine, but when i try to do anything my system locks up. it has never locked up when the ac adaptor is plugged in. so i don't understand why it is doing this. if anyone has some suggestions. by the way i am using InitNG for my booting method cause the normal way for Ubuntu stalls at eh ALSA 0 setup. thanks

yeah i have been kind of testing out my lappy...and i have noticed that it usually freezes right after gnome loads and i try to do something as if it stalls because there is too much going on. another thing is that it never stalled after i booted with ac adaptor plugged in and then i unplugged it. So it might have to do with something on boot that tries to find the ac adaptor and it keeps trying or something and then eventually freezes up or my laptop is just a piece of shit...600m dell...its horrrrrible. never buy one. but anyway if you guys think of something. let me know. thanks again
