Whcih driver to use: Brother PrintJet 663 /w BlueTooth

Hello World,

just bought myself a Brother PrintJet 663 Thermoprinter with BT.
A huge part of my purchasing decision was the stated promise of Linux driver support.
But neither the Install CD, nor Brother's website list *any* Linux driver for the PrintJet series, much less for the 663 BT unit.

I am running on OpenSuSE 12.3, where YaST even recognizes the printer over BT right away, but can't find the proper driver for it.

Brother's Universal Installer tool also comes up short, as it simply goes by the driver's listed on Brother's website.

Now I'm really miffed here, but before I give up I was hoping someone could at least point me to a compatible driver for another Brother model.

I could also live with having to run the unit via USB, but I would have hoped to avoid having to go via VMware for printing all the time.

Regards

PS: Sorry for the spelling error in the post's title, but it won't let me correct that one.

You first need to make sure that you have the bluez-cups package loaded, as that's what provides bluetooth connectivity to cups. Once you load that, you should be able to set the printer up through YAST.

Brothers website can:
The drivers. You need to install both the LPR and CUPS wrapper drivers. The LPR package contains the driver, from what I can see:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...sp.html#PJ-663

The instructions:

Why would you have to run VMWare for printing via USB? USB printers are well supported under openSUSE.

Your last statement might be true for "normal" USB printers, but the special printers I have to use are normally *not* supported under Linux - like e.g. the Planon Printstiq.

And as I wrote YaST has no problem seeing/recognizing the printer - it just doesn't show me the proper driver for it.
Not via Bluetooth and not via USB connection either - that's why I resolved to using VMware, to at least be able to test the printer's functionality.

And I also mentioned in my post that I already tried Brother's Universal Installer in vain for that purpose, too.
It doesn't recognize *any* variation of PJ-663 as a printer model, neither is *any* PrintJet model listed on the Brother Linux Driver website that UI refers to:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...nload_prn.html

But thanks for your alternate link of: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...sp.html#PJ-663

I navigated Brother's website for hours yesterday w/o being directed to that alternate URL.
Not sure why their UI tool doesn't refer to it either, but now I've found some new PJ drivers and will give them a try.

Looks good so far, the drivers installed OK and I could bind them via YaST to the device.
But now I'm outta battery juice and have to wait for the power supply (Brother forces you to order & buy that part separately).

More later once I got my first test page printed under Linux.

PS: Thanks @TB0ne for his link, I wonder why Brother didn't put that into the manual - or even better included those drivers on their install CD. Would have saved me a lot(!) of aggravation.
