I was a bit stupid. Well, I tried your procedure and found MASTER at the same level the second time. However, it is PCM Front that goes to 100%.

As a matter of fact, the problem is exposed in simpler terms in post #1 of https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...should-850529/

P.S.: I looked for Emil Gilels in the wikipedia and it says:
