What printers work best with ubuntu?

I have been having trouble with HP DeskJet 400.It insists on thinking I have a color cartridge which is not the case. It is old and I'm ready to buy a new small printer for home use, no extras. What brands are easiest to configure?

I would check out www.linuxprinting.org. They have an extensive listing of printers that work. My impression is that most HP stuff works pretty well nowadays using the hpijs driver.
