What performance do you get with the ATi fglrx version 8.12?

It seems that ATi have improved their 3d Linux drivers tremendously since the last time I updated.

In Debian I use fglrx 3.14 (XFree86) and I get about ~1800 fps at best with glxgears.

In Gentoo, I noticed that I use fglrx version 8.12 (Xorg) and I get ~2700 fps.

Can anybody confirm this? I am not quite sure whether I can trust glxgears output completely because it seemed to be running at a normal speed (not at a very fast speed as usual).

Is this because of a later version of glxgears or is the value highly exaggerated?

Punishing ati in favour of nvidia along threads and threads maybe has worth: new installer, possible speed improve... is ati trying to recover market in linux?

I'll update my drivers and will be back with new opinions but we could be in front of great news.

From www.ati.com their latest driver is 8.14.

I also believe they now have a graphical installer for the driver

I'm downloading it right now and I'm going to test it.

I have installed the latest drivers 8.14 and I get the following fps in glxgears!
Code:
13631 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2726.200 FPS
14563 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2912.600 FPS
14588 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2917.600 FPS
13418 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2683.600 FPS
14586 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2917.200 FPS
14584 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2916.800 FPS
This is much much better than the 1700-1800 fps avg I got with the old 3.14 drivers!

And with fgl_glxgears:
Code:
2220 frames in 5.0 seconds = 444.000 FPS
2653 frames in 5.0 seconds = 530.600 FPS
2692 frames in 5.0 seconds = 538.400 FPS
2699 frames in 5.0 seconds = 539.800 FPS
Far better! And the new graphical installer is pretty good too. No problems installing the new ones (although it may have something to do with the fact that I had already installed ATi drivers before and I guess the kernel environment was already present).

Before -> A bit less than 1100 fps
After -> A bit more than 1110 fps

My old version was 4.3.0.
Well, at least the installer is cool.

I am using XFree86 4.3.0 and my radeon is 9200.
