I've managed to make the sagem work on red hat. That's how I did it:
1) go to the support section of the sagem (www.sagem.fr) site and download drivers and installation notes;
2) be shure to have the following packagest installed: kernel module for usb; gcc; cpp; kernel sources.
3) follow closely the installation notes and rebuild/install the drivers. In this phase you might find some compilation problems check carefully the path for include files;
4) update configuration files (see again support site for encapsulation parameters);
5) read carefully the section regarding automatic dns: they say thet red hat 9 does not need it any more, but actually it is the opposite (i.e. create the link they suggest)

First of all, if you can, try to not to connect your ADSL modem to USB. There is no standarts. But connection throw LAN is fully standartized. If you connect it throw LAN, you can just use the roaring penguin client (adsl-setup, adsl-start, adsl-stop). For example, I use it.

Give a try to eagle-usb drivers http://dev.eagle-usb.org/wakka.php?wiki=TestEagleUs

and its support forum http://forum.eagle-usb.org/viewforum.php?f=7

tell us which of sagem's or eagle-usb is easier to install ;-)
