What do you mean by "minimum configuration"?

We cannot help you with a problem without proper information.

FYI: I suggest that you look at 'How to Ask Questions the Smart Way' so in the future your queries provide information that will aid us in diagnosis of the problem or query.

I do a internet web search for my distro choice.

For example I use a web search at google for "ubuntu minimum hardware requirements".

That may give me links to pages that say 386 processor 1g ram or some such answers.

The actual limit of a normal linux may be pretty small but I assume you mean some distrobution like Puppy linux, Linux Mint, Debian or OpenSuse.

Well, you'll need something that is, or acts like, a computer. Something like a Raspberry Pi is pretty minimalist, but there are probably even smaller options.

in particular the
"How To Ask a Question "

the min "raspberry pi "
but a old computer ??? one that was running windows 95 would be "hard" to install a modern OS on
some old win 98 machines ? "puppy" and "Damn Small Linux" will

a old XP box CentOS will install

Unless you want to put something together yourself using Slackware or Tiny Core (not recommended for the beginner) you can use AntiX. That recommends 128MB RAM, but it will run in 64MB if that's all you have, although you'll be using a web browser that can't cope with some sites. The i686 version needs a Pentium Pro; the i486 version will run (rather slowly) on a Pentium I or an AMD K5.
