what is a good pci-wifi(54g) card for linux-exact model not just chipset
 

well i'm looking for a wifi card that works good with linux, i have looked around and have found that prisim (maybe) and atheros should work good for linux, the problem is every time i look into it i just find this chipset works great then search newegg and find things like xyz54g, ie not running a specific chipset, or that this card is good, but the new ones are not, or there is a version of it that is not good with linux

so, can anyone help me find a specific pci wifi card that i can get, as i am unsure exactly what models have what chipset, does anyone have a pci-wifi card that they got working without using the ndiswrapper and know the model of the card? i'm probably going to buy it from newegg so a link to the product page on newegg would be nice too

and it has to be at least 802.11g compliant

Ralink are also supported with manufacturer supplied source code. Here is a list of cards using Ralink chips.

My card has the Ralink rt2500 chip. Everything appears to work perfectly, including wpa encryption and ad hoc mode. The source code for the driver is not in the kernel, but is available via the above link. along with a support forum. You need your kernels header files to compile it.

well i looked into that and they apparently still don't support SMP kernels and i am not about to go without SMP so i guess i'm not getting that one, but i have found a listing of all cards with Atheros on their site, so i think i will look into those cards

What's wrong with ndiswrapper ?

I have a Linksys WMP54GS working with it.

i would rather not rely on dlls for my drivers

and looking at the ndiswrapper site, they dont support monitor mode....and thats about all i plan on using :jawa:
