what external modem?

Hey guys and gals. I have Fedora as a dual boot with windows xp pro on my IBM thinkpad G40. I also have Knoppix which I just got and I seem to like better. ANyway neither one recognizes my winmodem which from what I have read so far any version of linux probably wont recognize. So what type of external modem should I use via USB that Linux will recognize? A proven brand and model would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to be sure go with a US robotics. But pretty much any external serial port modem should work, granted fedora sees the serial port on your motherboard. I dunno if I'd go with a usb one, unless you get it somewhere that you can return it if it doesn't work out.

To my knowlege, NO USB modem is usable in Linux out of the gate. If you have a regular desktop box, a USR 5610 internal or a serial external is great. SuSE has a great hardware database at http://hardwaredb.suse.de/searchForm...e3d97e3f401654
