What DVD recorders/writer manufacturers support firmware updates natively in Linux ?

What DVD recorder manufacturers support upgrades to the drives firmware directly using Linux, and not requiring a DOS or Windows XP CD boot disk, and not Wine?

Please be aware that I am not asking about what you found worked after having upgraded the firmware in Microsoft Windows. Neither is this a question about which DVD recorders or writers just seem to work under Linux, I've already asked that in a different thread (see Linux-friendly DVD recorders).

Thanks,

None. You have to find 3rd-party firmware utilities to do this. They may screw up the drive or the device will be OK.

The only time you need to upgrade the firmware, when it can not read a disc from some software manufacture. This rarely happens.

You should not be obsessed of upgrading the firmware of every product. Usually new software does not work well or as good as the old software.

I would like to hear if anyone has seen examples of native Linux firmware upgrading, but I suspect you are right. Pretty sad since "3rd-party firmware utilities" means running under Windows XP or DOS boot disks, doesn't it? :)

Ok fine Electro. But you are ruining all of my "fun". :)

Ok good to know. Time to go back to DOS 6.22 because this new Linux software is just not as good. ;)

Seriously, I don't follow your reasoning here: Are you saying that in your experience firmware upgrades actually degrade the functionality for the DVD writers you have experience with? Which ones are you referring to (so that I can stay away from them in the future)?
