What distribution supports touchpads?
On another forum, a Chinese member named "曹振华" wants to install Linux on two laptops: "HUAWEI MateBook D 16" and "HUAWEI MateBook X Pro 2022". He has tried to install UnionTech OS, a Chinese distribution, on the laptops. Unfortunately, UnionTech OS does not support the touchpads. Does anyone know what distribution supports touchpads? He has said that the laptops came preinstalled with Windows 11, but he wants to stop using Windows.

Is it likely that the two laptops' touchpads require a newer kernel? He said that he could not use the touchpads during the installation processes.

Just to build on the previous posts, touchpad support is in the kernel.

There are more up to date kernels. I have 5.15.0-73 at the moment and that is on Kubuntu 22.04.
Kubuntu 23.10 has 6.1 or 6.2
I don't know if a kernel change will solve your problem.

Yep, that is right, all of them support touchpads. distributions have strong community support and active forums, where 曹振华 can find help if he encounters any issues during the installation or afterward. Before installing any distribution, it's recommended to check their official websites for system requirements and compatibility with specific hardware models.

He installed Linux Mint 21.1 on my advice, but Mint failed to start after the installation. Then, he installed "deepin V23 Beta" of his own accord. Now, he can use the laptop properly. UnionTech OS is based on Deepin OS, which uses a newer kernel. I am currently running UnionTech OS 22.0. I have never installed Deepin OS.

It depends on the error message.
The OS should be able to detect and post text as to what the problem is.
If he has a EIFU or whatever it is called BIOS and it is not set on classic mode, during install, you might have to make a special EUFI partition, called /boot/efi
You might have to go into the BIOS and disable secure boot as well.

The issue with touchpads on linux may be due to how the touchpad attaches to the host. Looking at a distro that works may help diag next distro.
