What's my CameraPhone?
 

I'm trying to set up a camera-phone so that I can d/l the pics off of it to my Linux box (Debian-Sarge) via USB. It's a Motorola V220, and I see no way to do so via the web site of my cell carrier and I don't exactly want to pay for the kilobytes to send it (I'm on a prepaid plan). Has anyone had any luck setting up such a camera-phone with their Linux system? If so, what's the device file that appears for the device with your distribution?

It's supposed to be mounted as /dev/sda1 or so. It shouldn't be much different from a regular camera. Try this page

So far, it does not do that, it is picked up as a modem or ISDN adapter (sorta what the primary purpose of the device is--a cell phone), but I'm after the camera function on the device. No /dev/sda-anything appears, but I can just plug in my SD-card reader and that appears on /dev/sda1. The SD-Card reader works fine. Something's up here and I would like to know what.

i also have a v220 and kmobile tools is reported to work with this phone.

i run suse 10.0 and it says in hte hardware manager that the phone is a usb modem at /dev/ttyACM0 but i cannot get the software to see it there.

the phones don't show up as usb drives like cameras do because they want you to have to pay to get the pics off or pay for the windows software.

no matter what i do kmobiletools still tells me that it cannot initialize the gsm device and i haven ot been able to get any good information about how to make it work, all i can find is the configurations other people have used sucessfully but they do not work for me.

It don't work for you either, does it?

Also, I have just found my LCD to be broken--D'OH! Maybe I can get Cingular to warranty it. :mad:

I'm using Bitpim on SimplyMepis 3.3.2 with a LG VX6100, it is a CMDA type phone, I believe your Motorola is also. One thing I found is the phone had to be set to serial, even though I was using a usb cable, then the driver that is built into kernels 2.4 & 2.6 was able to access the phone. I believe it is dirty pool to sell you a phone that takes pictures and then charge you to upload them.

Cingular uses a TDMA-based system, or more like GSM, though that should be irrelivant for our discussion as I'm trying to push over a few wires instead of the cell network.

I haven't had any luck with a "serial" connection either, but then again, I'm trying Kandy. Mepis may work better.

did i heard something about /dev/sda1 hor?

That's what my SD-card reader shows up as, also what a Moultrie Gamecam comes up as, but not my cameraphone. :mad:
