Smile Western Digital Passport 160 GB circuit board USB mini-B (4-pin) loose.

Hi all, I was given an older (2006) Western Digital Passport external harddisk enclosure with a Western Digital Scorpio harddrive. I have opened the enclosure and removed the drive portion from what appears to be a small electronic circuit board that has on one side a Sata connector and the other side a USB mini-B (4 pin) connector. The drive passed "gsmartcontrol" extended test just fine with approximately 4,000 hours on it (160GB size).

What appears to have happened with this enclosure is the USB mini-B connector has separated from the circuit board most likely due to (roughly) plugging and unplugging it from the cable.

1. Is this WD Scorpio drive shingled or non shingled?
2. What spindle speed is this WD Scorpio harddrive (5400 or 7200) - it's WD black label.
2. Is there a point to attempt to try and update the drive firmware?
3. Is there a way I can find this circuit board inexpensively (I am on a budget) - Then I can finally have a nice external harddisk.
4. I have attached 2 pictures of the circuit board and then uploaded them to ibb. ----> https://ibb.co/wgJ1377 <---- I apologize for the blurry photo.

I would really appreciate your professional opinions on this matter.

Thank You very much also.

You can get all information from WD website, the rotation speed, whether it is SMR or not. Use the information from label.
Loose port can be soldered back. That's what I would do.

Alternative to soldering is simply to replace the drive enclosure. Amazon has options for both 2.5 and 3.5 inch drives for about $20 to $30 and ebay has them for less.

From what I find on line the WD black drives are CMR, not SMR (shingled). Check yours specifically though.
The WD Red and most of the Blue are also SMR

Firmware? "If it ain't broke don't fix it." is the policy I would suggest.

Thank you for your responses. I have been checking this enclosure out on Amazon. ----> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...k_ql_qh_dp_hza

I like the enclosure since it's aluminum and Has a full size USB 3.0 A type connection on the enclosure side (Hopefully more sturdy).

Any opinions on this?

Thank you once again

I would not be adverse to buying that one.
