Weird Sound Problem

Hi there!

I'm a complete linux noob... but recently I decided to install gentoo.. which I was able to do (mostly thx to their excellent install manual).

The problem is this... after I had installed gentoo it was time to emerge and compile kde, but first I emerged irssi and mp3blaster to have something to entertain me during the process

SO.. I was happily emerging and compiling kde while chatting with some friends and listening to some music (my soundcard was detected without any problems, an creative live! btw) when I decided I should install mplayer and watch some movies. Did that fired up mplayer.. and the system crashes.. Now my sound doesnt work anymore.. at all.. there is no sound device found or anything.. I have tried and emerged emu10k1 but that doesnt work... any ideas on how to get my sound working again?

Sorry if its a stupid question.. but I really dont know anything about linux so I cant measure the "difficulty" of this problem..
