weird noise in hard drive

I was copying some files from dir1 to dir2 and I got some input/output error. At the same time the hard drive made some weird noise. Any clues?.

Does anybody knows how to check hardward problems with SUSE8.0?.

Thnx

ehmm, well, did it copy it after you tried again??, or does it keep doing the same thing over and over?

you might just be at the vertigo of a head crash, which would be really, really, really bad. But, then, if it was that, it would have probably already happened. Anyway, post some more updates on what's happening with it.

Also, this thread might better be answered in the Hardware forum, but this is for furute references only...don't retype this same thread on that forum again...just future threads, if they relate to hardware parts of your computer.

Some files did not copy over, and the noise was present only when the input/output error was there.

Now the system is up, and the noise is gone. I tried to replicate the noise by copying the "files with problems" but I could not (murphy's law!!!). The second time the files were copied without noise and no problems art all.

if you haven't noticed while you were replying bob10a, this was moved to the hardware forum where its better suited. :)

hehe, pretty tricky, trickykid, :p

well, bob10a, then it might've just been one of those mistakes that may happened once in a while...for example my computer freezing or making a coaster while burning a cd. Hardware is not perfect you know, :p. But sounds like you will be okay....just start worring if the same thing happens and again, and then it beginning happenening more often...but lets hope it doesn't, :)
