Weird - Mouse button events for keyboard keypresses?

Hi,

I'm using a Logitech Internet Navigator (Special Edition) keyboard on the USB port of my Debian Sid install (kernel 2.6.5).

That keyboard has quite a few special multimedia keys, and I would like to customise what they do. I have no problem with most of them, however, I have some strange effects for a few... According to xev,

- the Messenger/SMS key produces button 1 mouse events (left mouse button - button press and release events),
- the Webcam key produces button 3 mouse events (right mouse button),
- the iTouch key produces mouse button 2 events,
- the Shopping key produces mouse button 6 events.

Is this a kernel bug? Potentially with the USB system? I don't have PS/2 ports, so I can't try if it works then... Any ideas greatly appreciated.

P.

Wow, 110 views and not a single comment? ;)

Effect still persists with kernel 2.6.7. Any ideas very welcome.

Also, I've had another issue for a while - it seems to me that certain keypresses are duplicated if a key is pressed before one is released. (Most common) example: Typing the :) smiley - when I type it quickly, I get ::) if I press the ) key before releasing the : . The same thing happens with certain (not all) other key combinations, for example typing "idea" quickly results in ideade. I know I may be slow to release keys I've pressed, but if I use the built-in keyboard on my laptop, this problem doesn't exist - only for my USB logitech navigator SE.

Any pointers/clues muchly appreciated.

Cheers,
P
