Angry Weird beeps

I'm running a dual boot with XP Pro and Suse 8.2, and for whatever reason (this just started happening randomly), I hadn't used Suse for a while and I did a reboot out of Windows to log onto Linux and the icons would flicker on my desktop and the computer would beep every 4 or 5 seconds. Now when I want to switch OS's I have to completely shut down the computer and let it sit for a few seconds or it'll continue to beep.

Anybody know what could cause that?

Thanks!

Pentium 4 2.8HT
1gb mem

Running the Suse kernel that gets released by Suse on their update service.

It only happens when I reboot though. If I turn off the computer it works fine.

Good one - just get rid of anything you don't need and see what happens. My box starts beeping for some reason if I compile something in a terminal.

Umm ~ I was being serious. What's a possible process that could be running that would cause it. I've never paid much attention to the Linux scheduler.

I am just kidding of course.Anything could do it.There are a gazillion possible services that could be running on a full-blown Suse install. If you use kde check with kde system guard to see whats running and get rid of anything you don't need to see if it helps. If you con't use top. It's a good idea to get rid of stuff you don't need anyway.
