WebCam woes

Well I did something today that I haven't done in a very long time. Thats right, I booted to Windows XP to see what my webcam was like. I went out and got the Logitech QuickCam Pro 4000. Before doing so I found some information here about the drivers for it. Of course I did not read the fine print and later found out, after buying the webcam, that the modules were for the a kernel >= 2.4.19 . Doh' The latest release for RedHat 8.0 is 2.4.18-27.8.0 . I have two choices:

1. Install newer kernel
2. Give up on Linux and go back to Microsoft (Hey there not that bad right?)

Thoughts, comments, criticism...

There is some very good documentation regarding getting new kernel versions and compiling them. Try this site for compiling the 2.4.19 kernel

http://www.tldp.org/LDP/lfs/html/chapter06/kernel.html

Hope this helps.
ONe more thing: my Intel Easy PC Camera does not work on Linux , yet I have not gone back to WIndows.

I swear I'll go back to Windows. No I'm just kidding. I would never do that.

I'm working on the 2.4.20 kernel now.
