This is an old problem which I never satisfactorily resolved.
The web cam is a Microdia 0c45 60fc. I can get mplayer to display a frame with a medium-dark green field within but get no picture displayed. I was advised to use gspca_sonixj in lieu of sn9c102. I have read that the sn9c102 is included in sn0c105 which is displayed when I enter the command lsusb which gives:
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 0c45:60fc Microdia PC Camera with Mic (SN9C105)
I have just found a Debian bug report on this camera for kernel 2.6.32-38. I am running Slackware 13.37 with kernel 2.6.37.6-smp.
The fix for Debian was to disconnect the web cam,
modprobe -r sn9c102
modprobe gspca_sonixj
echo 0c45 60fc > /sys/bus/drivers/sonixj/new_id
and reconnect the web cam.
I can find /sys/bus which has a number of directories but no "drivers" and no sonixj file.
Can someone point me to the correct place to put the mfr no. and camera no. if that exists in this version of Slack or tell me this fix does not apply to this version of Slack?
BTW I have tried substituting gspca for sn9c102/5 before with dismal results.
Thanks if U can help.
I can load the gspca_sonixj module, no prob.
Scanning ur URL left me wondering what UR intent was.
After I modprope gspca_sonixj the find command sees this:
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/sonixj
What should be done next?
Distribution: Slackware 14.1 64-bit, Ubuntu 15.10, Fedora 17, Ubuntu 12 LTS and Ubuntu server 10.04

Okay, now that you have the right directory, try the command you had to start with:
modprobe -r sn9c102
modprobe gspca_sonixj
echo 0c45 60fc > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/sonixj/new_id
Do you have the source of where that command came from (for me to read)?
My appologies for responding so slowly.
I followed the directions I had gotten and now when I run an mplayer command it still tries to use the bttv video device.
It is such a hassle to unplug/plug I am going to consider this webcam dead and try another.
I no longer have the source but try a web search with microdia, webcam, sn9c10, and mplayer. I believe that is how I stumbled on it and it is a Debian bug.
