Read the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature; you need to provide details. Are you asking us to look up webcams for you? Or are you having a problem with a particular one?? Most webcams work right out of the box, but you don't tell us how you're wanting to use this, plug it in, budget, etc. Or what you consider a 'normal webcam'.

Provide details and we can try to help.

This might help: https://www.google.com/search?q=webc...firefox-b-1-ab

Try installing 'cheese' in Linux. Plug in the webcam you have, and see if you can see it in cheese. USB webcams are pretty well supported in Linux.

And you don't tell us which one you got, so it's hard to tell you WHY it's not working. Also, you're using older Mint...latest is 19, and you're at 17.3. If it's a brand-new camera (and by that, I mean a new chipset), it may not be supported with 17.3, but may work just fine with 19. Might consider upgrading.

To that, I've not seen a webcam that just 'didn't work' in years. Even the built-in iSight on the iMac I use worked with Tumbleweed right out of the gate, and Apple hardware is typically the most fussy.
