web cam install

i am trying to install my webcam it is a omnivision bran and it is suposed to use the ov511 driver i modprobed it and all usb drivers that were needed and when i run kudzu
it is detected and i tell it to configure it and the sound on the webcam when i type dmesg it detects that there is a webcam and it also says

usbcore: registered new driver ov511
drivers/usb/media/ov511.c: v1.64 for Linux 2.5 : ov511 USB Camera Driver

but stilll it says there is no /dev/video0 device
so i cd to /dev i run ./MAKEDEV video
chmod video 666
and still nothing
