Warning: Spd...

I recently plugged a new GeForce 2, and set it up in Linux, however when the system is booting, just before LILO starts, after the table with computer components is displayed, i get the following message:

WARNING: SPD not found at DIMM(s) 1

And its in white color wildly flashing as if trying to say "Something is really phucked up" I am guessing this is something to do with memory because of that DIMM..
Linux works without problems i noticed tho, so what can this be, and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance to everyone,

-NSKL

Do you only have the one stick of ram? If so try removing it and replacing it again making sure it if firmly seated in the slot (don't use too much force), if you have two sticks try one at a time and see if one of them gives an error.

OK, two sticks of RAM, i removed the first one, and memory test showed 138 MB of memory - cuz one stick was out (there are two sticks of 128MB) and the error did not appear. Then i plugged the stick back on the 3rd slot and the memory test showed 260MB of RAM but the SPD error appeared again, i removed the stick and put it back into slot one, where it was originally and the memory test recognizes all 260MB or RAM but the SPD error is still occuring. Could this mean i damaged/fryed my RAM stick? Or can i safely ignore this error since the memory test is recognizing all of my RAM even tho the error is still there?

Thanks for help

You might have a dodgy slot on your motherboard, I know that if I put a stick of ram in the second slot on mine it refuses to boot but having a stick in slot 1 and slot 3 works fine. There is a memory test utility that you can get called memtest86 that will tell you if you have a bad stick of ram.

Hmm, i compiled memtest but i get seg fault when i try to run it, maybe i just need to put on a floppy and boot from it so to check memory before the kernel loads into it..
Anywayz i will ignore the error for now... Thanks for help!
