Want to buy compatible external modem for Mandkrake 9.1 - please advise!
Hello, I am new to Linux and have purchased Mandrake 9.1 PowerPack. I have a winmodem which I have given up trying to make work and made the decision to purchase a new external modem which will work easily. Could somebody please tell me of an external modem, available in the UK, that will definitely work? And where I can get the drivers from?
I have been to the Mandrake website and there are some listed under "Known" but none under the "Tested" section so I am still confused and worried about purchasing the wrong one. Any advice would be much appreciated.
i use a Zoom external 56k serial modem
it came from pcworld
they are readily available in the uk
it works with XP/Mandrake 9/9.1/ Redhat 7.3/8 and slackware 9 and even the knoppix bootable cd version of linux
(those are the ones i have tested so far)
Don't give up on the Winmodem. Visit http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/, and check it out first. They have several packages, which install as simply as running the script. It worked first try, flawlessly, on my Vaio SRX77. The hardest part is identifying which chipset the modem uses. Reference your owners docs, it should help. Good luck.
