Question Want to buy a NEW, CURRENT MODEL Blu-Ray burner that will work well with Linux - need advice

Hi people,

I'm looking for recommendations as well as traps to avoid.

I'd like to be able to burn cds, dvds, and blu-ray media and I'd also like to be able to watch dvds and blu-ray media. 3d would be icing on the cake, but if there's something tricky with subtitles I'd like to hear about it.

I'm looking to buy an external drive and I anticipate that it will have a USB 3 connection to the main box. I don't mind a separate power supply.

Also, I'd appreciate hearing from you if you have had trouble with a drive (please specify the make and model #.)

FWIW, I'm running Kubuntu and a couple of flavours of Debian.

Thinking about the Asus SBW-06D2X-U PRO which will handle 128GB disks, anyone using this drive?

Thanks in advance, Graeme.

Graeme969,

This Asus model runs at 16x compared to the 6x for the model you mentioned:

Thanks for that, beachboy2. I've just bought one of those.

Unfortunately, the movie I most want to watch on it doesn't have
an entry in the most populous keydb.cfg I've managed to get so far:-(

Looks like I might have to resurrect my old, overheating, Windoze box:-(

Regards, Graeme.
