Wacom Wireless - stop disconnection process?

I bought the wireless adapter for my Wacom tablet because I was going to mangle the usb plug if I kept using it in my lap. The new wireless kit works awesome. GIMP supports this device wonderfully.

Problem: When I use it for a few minutes and turn it off to save battery, /dev/input loses all it's devices (event11-13, js0, mouse1, mouse2), and GIMP gets confused. When I turn it back on, I need to restart GIMP to get it to recognize the new devices.

I often have 6 or 10 pix open in various stages of development, so I can't do this. It really puts a kink in the wireless usability for me.

How can I get my system to ignore this dmesg event:
Code:
[869335.173148] wacom 0003:056A:0084.0007: wireless tablet disconnected
Thanks in advance for any leads on this issue. I think the solution may be in some clever udev tweak.

I use a USB Wacom tablet (great device!), not a wireless.

Here is a quick guess. I have had occasion where the USB had to be disconnected and reconnected, and re-running my custom config script allowed it to be picked up again by the Gimp, as I recall.

That script is just a set of xsetwacom commands for setting my buttons and event options.

See man xsetwacom and if you are not using your own initialization script, create one, or maybe just try:

Code:
xsetwacom list
...after restarting it, which should list your device and its properties.

I don't know if that will work for your device and wireless adapter, but it is easy to try!

You might also explore the Gimp input device options, perhaps tickling something in there will trigger it to reacquire the device.

For udev, we will have to wait for someone else as I am out of here for the night!

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I have an extensive set of xsetwacom scripts that I use to tweak the tablet's operation. I use it upside down, and I have all the buttons set for various GIMP shortcuts/etc, awesome the way you can make them do anything. I used it for a while with the cord, but I kept wanting to use it in my lap for sketching, therefore the wireless kit.

With the cord, you don't need to do anything. But if you unplug it and plug it back in while using it with GIMP, I'm pretty sure you'll need to re-start GIMP to get it back. That's basically what happens when I turn the unit off and back on with the wireless, and exactly the issue I speak of. GIMP loses the device on POWER OFF and does not regain it on POWER ON, without application restart.

So I thought maybe I could get the system to ignore the POWER OFF event.

This is important usability issue, and likely the reason the wireless unit is not included in the basic package. It was actually quite hard to find.
