WACOM Intuos.3 A5 tablet

I`ve got little problem with my Intuos.3 tablet. I`ve got Ubuntu Breezy installed. The tablet worked out of the box, but not too good. I had to edit xorg.conf to get it work properly. Now everything is fine, except the express keys of my tablet. I can`t get them to work. I`ve built and installed expresskeys-0.2.4 package (it`s my first post here, so I can`t paste the adress of the site with the expresskeys).
Unfortunately I don`t know how to run it properly. I try "expresskeys pad" command, but I get then "expresskeys ERROR: Can not find pad device: pad". It seems that my pad device isn`t detected or something. Here`s my xorg.conf:
Code:

# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
#  sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

I hope someone could help me as I really need this tablet to work properly. Thank you in advance.

by the way: I don`t think that the problem is expresskeys package. After "xidump -l" I get:
"eraser extension
stylus extension
cursor extension
Generic Keyboard keyboard
Configured Mouse disabled
NVIDIA Event Handler extension"

So, no "pad" device either. Should I create it somehow manually?

:) My tablet works now with express keys.
If someone has the same problem as I wrote before you must do this:
- from this site: http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.php/dl
you must download the newer linux wacom package; in my case it was linuxwacom-0.7.0-1.tar.bz2
- in the terminal type:
Code:

locate wacom_drv.o
- you should get something like this:
Code:

/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/wacom_drv.o
- backup the old driver:
Code:

cp /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/wacom_drv.o /home/user/Desktop/wacom/wacom_drv.o_old
- now unpack the package linuxwacom-0.7.0-1.tar.bz2 (you don`t need to compile anything)

- in the package`s folder enter "prebuilt"

- now replace with wacom_drv.o_xorg the older driver:
Code:

cp wacom_drv.o_xorg /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/input/wacom_drv.o
- now just restart X and it`s all done

Now you can use this program:
http://web.telia.com/~u46133770/wacom/index.html
and make your custom shortcuts to Express Keys :)

Thank you for this post. I just ordered a Wacom Intuos 3 and was concerned about it not working properly on Linux when I got it. I even went so far as to install XP on another HD just in case. With the way you presented everything, I now feel confident I'll have it going in no time. I wish everyone would lay things out for each other in a similar fashion. Thanks again.

I`m glad that I`ve helped :)

Your instructions were so nice and simple, I wonder why they couldn't write that on the project's HOWTO page? I've tried reading through their instructions, I got so overwhelmed.

I hope this will work with SuSE 10.0. I have kernel 2.6.13-15.10.
