video streaming on the LAN
I would like to steam video, perhaps using something like VLC, to a TV remotely located. Let's assume the video is avi formatted.
The data path would be from the harddrive to the ethernet, then to a device at the TV side, and onto the TV.
Can someone give me a pointer or two on this?
I don't want to connect the TV to a HDMI card on my computer, rather I would like to connect it to a box that receives data via my LAN, and then puts it into some format the TV can readily display.
What devices should I be looking at? Thanks.
Have 2 linux boxes.
1 computer has the file, use VLC to stream it via RTSP.
2nd computer is connected to the tv (using the tv as a monitor). Use VLC to receive and play the RTSP stream, go full screen.
Get a Roku.
There is an channel for it (can't remember the name and I haven't used it, but I looked into it a bit once) that you can get on the roku, and another app you put on your computer. The computer will stream it, and the roku channel will play the stream.
Use APACHE and transcode / ffmepg videos to stream from there. Just looking into the details for this.
