Video Drivers required for Intel D915GAV mb
 

hi i have a system with intel desktop board D915GAV installed with Fedora Core Release 4 linux. i can't find any suitable drivers for this chip set on intel's website, i need to run my system at 1024x768 resolution with 32Bit color depth. if anyone knows which driver to use and how to install and configure the drivers pls help me i'm very new to linux.

You can download the latest snapshot of the drivers from here. Just download the tarball, extract it (tar -jxvf <filename>), then follow the instructions included in the package to install it.

Alternatively, if you really want Fedora Core, release 5 is currently in beta, and should be released in 2 weeks.

hi Grue thanks a lot for the tip and my internet connection is not fast enough to download the iso image file thru ftp, from where can i get the new realease on cds in india.

hi i tried installing the drivers but the installation failed giving the errors-"ERROR Kernel modules did not compile try installing latest Kernel Modules and try installing".

i don't know what went wrong isn't my kernel modules new. i had installed Fedora core 2.6.11-1369_FC4smp. if my kernel modules are not new where can i find the latest kernel modules and how to install it. i could not start the GDM after the driver installation failed.

Part of the driver package is a kernel module to give X access to the frame buffer. You will need to install either the kernel-devel rpms or the kernel-source rpms (I can't remember which Fedora uses). Once they are installed the kernel module should compile and install.

unable to install video drivers
 

i had installed the kernel development packages on my system and tried installing the drivers but still getting the error
"ERROR:kernel modules did not compile
latest kernel modules are required to install th drivers. the installation will terminale. for details about what went wrong see dri.log ". i don't know what to do, i can't run my system with out installing the video drivers as the colors when i design doesn't match the colors in the prints and the video quality while editing dvds is poor and straining my eyes. while running doom3 i can't see any images clearly they just appear as color patches. please help me installing the drivers.

Make sure you have kernel-devel installed properly (click the link to download it if you need to). It looks like this may be your problem. I'm getting it to build on my Mandriva just fine (I'm currently downloading FC4 to test it). If this doesn't solve your build problem, let me know and I'll try to get back to you this week (school, work, etc).

hi GrueMaster my problem didn't solve on FC4, will FC5 fix all the compatiblity problems in D915GAV system. i'm currently downloading FC5 but i need your help in setting up my system.

Sorry for not getting back to you, I've been busy these last few weeks working on audio issues in the latest alsa release.

I believe FC5 will fix your problems. In my testing, it worked fairly well. You should get native Xwindows support, and audio support as well. FC5 should set up your system on it's own. Let me know how it goes, and I'll try to help where I can.
