i was trying to install my creative soundblaster live in a amd64 suse 9.1 install (i post a topic about that, but didnt recieve any replies (yet ;-)
but that doest work (yet?)
suse's supported hardwaredatabase says i cant use the card with a 64-bit version.
so i tried my onboard VIA 8237 soundcard (i enabled it in the bios) and...thank you alsa!
its working absolutely fine!
still, i dont understand it, because of 2 things:
after unsrewing my soundblaster-card and enabeling the via onboard sound, also this card was recognised correctly, but i got the message my sweex webcam was my primary sound-device
so i deleted that, sound is more important to me than a cam, and re-installed via8237 sound: tadaaa!
now im not sure to try to keep the cam deleted and try the soundblaster again (disableling the via sound), because I spend about 8 hours searching, foruming, googling, posting, aching back etc... and now its working, so...
maybe someone can give me some explanations here, so i can be properly prepared before trying?
and yes, i know, im a newbie
