VIA VT8233 Sound chip not work!!!!!!!!
Hello every one!
Sombody could help me with VT8233 chip????
It recongnized for redhat8 but didn't work.
I try chmod 666/dev/dsp* /dev/sudio*
I try installing sndconfig, didn't work,
Also a got problem with my 2nd Ethernet card (lynksys 10/100)
not such device.
??????? What could I do???
I'm Startin in linux system, and I don't want to return to Win.

Do "lsmod" as root and post the output.

onboard via sound card right? can't get it to work in my home pc. tried the drivers from http://www.opensound.com/. worked fine with that. how many cards do you have?
Also post the output of /sbin/lspci | grep Ethernet

If you're in Linux, then you can simply highlight the text with the left mouse button, and then past it into the text box of your browser with the middle mouse button. Make sure that you do not hightlight anything else in the mean time.

Hello, It's done but a got reading like this:
Sound server informational message:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.
I change le permission eith chmod and I got this:
crw-rw-rw- 1 nibou root 14, 3 Aug 30 19:31 dev/dsp
crw-rw-rw- 1 nibou root 14, 19 Aug 30 19:31 dev/dsp1
crw-rw-rw- 1 nibou root 55, 0 Aug 30 19:31 dev/dsp56k
Redhat detect the VIA VT8233 chip but somehow it won't work!
Any suuggestion?

Well, my brother in law did for me!I got sound fully working, Thank to ALSA!
But it's really hard for me to install it! Bcause I'm newbie in Linux!
Well, My brother in law dit some thing like that:
1- download DRIVER, LIB, TOOL, OSS
2- UNPAKING
3- COMPLING
4 INSTALLING.
Don't ask me how to do that bcause I don't konow.
i have to learn hard!!!!!
go to www.alsa-projet.org and thy resolve your problem!!!!!!!
