Unhappy VIA VT8233 No Sound In RedHat 9


Iam Linux newbie, and resently installed Redhat 9, it detected my sound card (VIA VT8233 AC97), but I get no sounds, no error mge either. can you help please.

Have you tried using a mixer to unmute your sound? Have you tried to play system sounds, or *.wav files? Have you installed mp3 support if those are the type of files you're trying to play?

no, I was just testing the sound in 'System Toll' after install RedHat9.0, i get no sound at all, can you give more advice please.

I'll try, please post the output of /sbin/lspci -v, and /sbin/lsmod. Have you tried to open a mixer and unmute your sound and raise the volume.?

sorry I am a total newbie, what do you mean by 'open mixer', where do i find it? and how to do it?

By a mixer, I mean alsamixer, kmix, or aumix, etc.

The modules/drivers aren't loaded according to the lsmod output. It appears as if you'll need to run the configuration tool, or install the alsa packages.

Have a look at these, one of which should work for you.

My motherboard is a PC Chips M811-lu and my soundcard is onboard. sorry that I cant find the soundcard model number and stuff, I know its VIA tho.
