Unhappy VIA SuSE 9.1 sound problem

Hi,

Hope this isn't off topic. I had a perfectly working SuSE 9.1 install on a Via KT600 mobo up until a week ago and now it's driving me NUTS! The problem is with the onboard sound 8235 chip (I think). Sound playing worked fine after I originally worked out that alsaconf was the way forward, then SuSE update installed something (don't know what), and now sound is knackered.

If I minimise a window I get the start of the sample, then the sound is on infinite sustain *unless* I move my mouse around, which allows the sample to finish. Now the novelty of my audiocontrolling wondermouse has worn off (after 1 femtosecond), and I have tried everything I can think of to fix it.

Tried using alsaconf again - no joy, tried yast2 sound with the oss module, no joy, am really stumped. If this is an IRQ conflict, how do I go about fixing it. Could acpi be causing problems? (It's a desktop PC). I read on some other board that some software can cause problems with sound being completely absent, but this seems like a h/w issue to me.

Please help!

Cheers,

Jon.

further information

Hi,

OK - I might have been off course with the previous email. I have noticed that when the system boots, there seem to be
3 instances of snd-via82xx initiated - could it be this that's causing the problem? If so, how the hell do I go about
fixing it

Hope someone can help.

Cheers, Jon
