Hope I've posted this in the right place apologies if not, I'm new to Linux and forums, I already posted my problem in the newbie section and although I got a reply from one user who tried to help (Who I'm gateful to) I'm still no further ahead.
My PC has an onboard S3 VIA Chrome9 HC IGP Family video card when I open a video file it will start to play but if I click on any function (Full screen, pause, volume etc) I'm immediately booted out back to the log in screen even just hovering the cursor over a function can do it, It doesn't matter what software I use it happens with media player and Banshee I tried installing VLC with exactly the same results, I've very new to Linux having just installed Ubuntu alongside Win XP.The video card works perfectly on my XP installation so I don't think it's a problem with the card itself, it seems to me this is a driver issue the problem is I don't have a clue how to identify what driver version I'm using , how to get another one (if one is available) or how I would install it.
Any help anyone can give me would be appreciated because I enjoy using Ubuntu but if I can't get over this problem it would render it useless to me.
Hi Emegra,
It's not a good idea to post duplicate questions on different forums. Is there any reason why you displeased with the results on the Newbie forum? Glue seemed to be dealing with your problem. If would be better to raise questions there if you're dissatisfied with the responses you receive. Please request that this thread be merged with your first one. Try to be clear about what your problem is and what kind of answer you expect.
ciao,
jdk

I'm sorry if I broke any rules I'm not particularly familiar with protocol on these forums I was very grateful for Glues help he was the only one who tried to help me on that thread, however I was out of my depth with the link he sent me (my fault not his) I only thought someone may supply a different answer that someone with limited knowledge like myself could follow easier,I tried to be as informative as I could regarding my problem and thought I was, I meant no disrespect to this site and certainly none to glue, I'm not sure how to request this thread to be merged so if it is somehow offensive to anyone perhaps it would be better removed
