VIA 823x integrated soundcard screwing everything up

Hi all,

I'm a linux newbie with a problem that is a bit different than most soundcard problems i've seen. I am running mandrake 9.1, kernal 2.4.21-0.13mdk. When I installed it, it found my via 823x integrated soundcard and installed a driver, but it is not working properly. When I try to use xmms to listen to mp3's, if freezes the program. I do not have trouble listening to CDs using grip. I believe this is because my CD rom has it's own sound card. But why is it freezing xmms? Can anyone help me?

Hi,
I experienced almost the same problem. One week ago I installed SuSE 9.2. It recognized my integrated sound-card (VIA 823x rev60) correctly but since that point I didn't hear anything. It doesn't freeze or crashes, there is only nio sound. At the Aurox distribution it works find. But there I installed and configured the soundcard by myself. I have no idea what's wrong.
