VGA display only working in login screen

I am using a VGA display for my Ubuntu 14.04 desktop. However, it only works during start-up and at the login screen. After login it says that no signal is found. Any ideas on how to solve this?

Many thanks!

Hi...

While I'm not sure if it will work, you can try using the "nomodeset" parameter before booting Ubuntu. I think this is accessed by pressing F6. Also, who is the manufacturer of your graphics chip?

This issue may may be caused by an incorrect frequency/refresh rate setting.
