vesafb, LCD display, kernel 2.6.2

Hi all,

I have a question concerning vesafb, graphics card and LCD display.

When I boot up my system with 2.6.2 kernel and vesafb I get two different results:

1. My LCD Display is connected via standard vga cable: success. vesafb ist working well in 1280x1024 mode (kernel option vga=794)

2. My LCD display is connected via DVI-I cable: failure. vesafb does not accept the vga=794 option and complains about "mode number not recognized"

Does anybody has encountered the same problem?

Any ideas where this problem can be solved?

This is likely a problem in your /etc/X11/XFree86-4.conf

The exact modifications that need to be made depend on your video card, but basically you need to define a new screen on the device that corresponds to the DVI-I output.

... I think.

You'll need to do some reading - try the manufacturer's website (Nvidia is good abotu such things, don't know about ATI..) or any documentation that came with the driver.
While you do that, post the hardware here and maybe someone can help in more detail.

The above problem is no XFree problem. X is running very well.

The strange behavior my system is showing belongs to the boot up sequence.

When the LCD Display is connected via standard vga cable eberything works well: Grub starts, Linux selection in Grun menue works and the system starts up with well shaped bootspash graphics...

But when the LCD display ist connected via DVI-I cable my system behaves like this:
Grub starts, Linux selection in Grub menue works, but the appropriate vesafb mode is not accepted by the kernel, I think, vesafb is not initialized.

My system configuration is:
Suse 8.1
Kernel 2.6.2

Athlon 2000
MSI nVidia GeForceFX 5700 Ultra
Soundblaster Audigy
NEC MultiSync LCD 1760NX
