Very slow usb writing to Teac MP-222

Using Debian Sid, fully updated.

I have just been given a Teac MP-222 MP3 Player. My problem is that copying files to it is very slow, about 1MB/min. Copying from it is fast. Under WinXP writing is fast. Also copying to my Pen Drive or to a Creative MUVO Player is fast.

Haldev reports that the Teac is formatted as FAT32 whereas the Pendrive and the other player (Creative MUVO) are FAT16.

I am automounting these drives in KDE.

mount reports:
Quote:
/dev/sde1 on /media/usb1 type vfat (rw,noexec,nodev,sync,noatime)
/dev/sdc1 on /media/usb0 type vfat (rw,noexec,nodev,sync,noatime)
usb0 is the Teac. usb1 is the Pendrive.

Is there something I can do to speed up the copying?

Do you think it has to do with the sync option on mount? Try mounting with -o sync

That forces the writes to happen as soon as it is "copied". I doubt that will happen, but the device is USB MASS right?

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll try it.

However I have found a workaround which is:

1. Unmount the automatically mounted directory.

2. Manually mount on a different directory.

I have no idea why this works but it does.
