v sync?

i have this command in my x11config thingy, but what else can i do to stop the tearing that happens in return to castle wolfenstein?

you know hen u pass a pole or a door you see it tear?
im running the game 1024x768 70 Hz? my monitor supports 85Hz at that resoulution?
is that why? it ANNOYIS me so much
