UVC Webcam Ubuntu

So i've used linux before and never gotten a webcam to work. I got a new laptop, the Asus g50v series and had installed ubuntu 8.10 on in and I noticed it had a built in UVC webcam so I figured it'd work...
so i typed "sudo apt-get install luvcview" then "luvcview" to see if it worked
and with my own amazement i was looking at my own face only problem is it was upside down, tried to click the flip button on luvcview but only recieved an error in the terminal and the window remained upside down...
My question is...
Is there some kinda of linux application I can use for managing my cam... Adjusting brightness/ contrast/ Flipping it over/ ect?

Also what good is the cam if i can't use it? My main goal is to get it working with flash apps so i can use it on stickam.com is this possible?

According to the uvcvideo driver page, some laptops have the camera installed upside down, and there is no way to flip the image in software..

check out the wiki for more info on application compatability.

if the camera is mounted upside down then why is windows displaying it just fine? I appreciate the answer but it makes no sense to me

Dunno bout other apps.. haven't done anything with my webcam other than click on cheese to see what the app was and then there was this really ugly dude staring back at me from the screen.. frightening experience really..
