UT2004 ut2004.ini?
Hi,
Yes, I'm newb. I installed the latest version of UT2004 demo. 3334 i believe. Install went just fine. When I run the game I see the splash screen then the whole screen goes black and then i'm back to the desktop. I figured this is probably a problem with my 5700 ultra card rendering in direct3d. I went to change the render mode in the ut2004.ini file and I couldn't locate the file. Is it named something different in the linux version?
Also, is there a way to set my card to render in direct3d?
My card is configured just fine for openGL..glxgears posts 7300 fps on average.

There is no Direct3D on Linux unless you're talking about running the UT2004 Windows binaries using wine. The ini file should be in <prefix>/System. Do "find -name "*.ini"" in a directory to find all ini files in subdirectories. There also might be a copy of the ini file in your home directory (i.e. under .ut2k) that overrides the one in <prefix>/System.
BTW, glxgears isn't a good indication of OpenGL speed. The only thing it's testing is cpu speed and fillrate.

I copied DefUser.ini to User.ini and also copied Default.ini to UT2004.ini. I then commented RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice and ucommented RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice. Still no luck.
I ran ut2004-bin from shell and it produced this error once the game crashed:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
WARNING: ALC_EXT_capture is subject to change!
Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".
Either GL_EXT_bgra or glDrawRangeElements not supported- bailing out.
History:
Exiting due to error
Does that help?

What is the output of glxinfo? glxgears doesn't necessarily tell if hardware acceleration is enabled. If it says that only indirect rendering is available, check to see if you have the latest NVIDIA driver, which I doubt even exists for FreeBSD.

I think you have something wrong in XF86Config. Post your XF86Config file.
In glxinfo you should have something similar to the information below.

The above is my glxinfo in Slackware 10, but it is about the same information in Mandrake 10 Offical. It works well in UT2004 demo.

I bet you're missing the following lines in /etc/X11/XF86Config (depending on your distro)
# This loads the GLX module
Load "glx"
# This loads the DRI module
Load "dri"

OK i reinstalled the latest drivers and presto. Working like a charm. I think the problem might have been that in my XF86Config I had Load "DRI" instead of Load "dri". Meh, who knows.
One more thing, my monitor supports 1280x1024 but i"m not sure of the refresh rate. Is there anyway I can add this resolution into my XF86Config without messing things up?
THanks for all the quick resposes.

For nVidia cards, do not use DRI. Comment the lines for DRI. DRI is used for ATI cards or other non-nVidia cards.
