usrobotics external serial sportster and courier modems works with minicom not wvdial


I am runnung suse linux 10.2 with 2.616 kernel. i use yast to configure the modems in which yast identifies both. when i use minicom and and run at and atdt w/ number it dials in asks for log and password and logs me in showing ip and other info but cannot get on internet. after a while gives me no carrier. then when i use wvdial and run at it does not even open my modem and serial port. tried kppp and kinternet without any luck to connect. even tried changing port from /dev/modem to /dev/ttys0 w/o luck any suggestions? thanks oh bye the way first question for me

My same experience with USRobotics and 3Com, wvDial would not work, I use minicom to verify connection and then kPPP to have a desktop icon/connection. Can you open any browser while connected with minicom ?

Compare the AT or init string. Each dial-up modems may use a different AT command, so double check with your manual.

Check to make sure your ISP IP address is listed in /etc/resolv.conf.
