/usr/lib/exec/run_init ... kernel panic!

Hello all,

I have a urgent question. Please first excuse my poor linux knowledge.

While trying to reboot in Linux (Debian), I have this message :
/usr/lib/yaird/exec/run_init opening console : Read-only file system
kernel panic - not syncing : Attempt to kill init

I did some change in the Windows partition, which touched the linux one, but I restored everything (hope so!) afterwards. I also tried to install kernel 2.6.15 instead of 2.6.14.

But for now, I'm not sure why I have this problem, and most of all, I don't know how to resolve it.

Please help me!

Probably did a backup from a cdrom so now everything has a read only flag on it.

im guilty of this same problem.

the fix is probably worse then the disease tho.

gonna have to chroot and change permissions on everything mainly the /dev directory.

if using udev rebuild the main crap in dev

checkou LFS part on /dev and udev and it may solve your issue
