USR 2976 modem on Mandrake 9.2

Hullo, I recently installed my first foray into linux with Mandrake 9.2, and have had the pleasure of getting everything working properly; except for my modem.

The modem in question is a US Robotics 2976, but is being recognized in Mandrake (harddrake) under the section Other Devices/ US Robotics Faxmodem 5610. I apparently *should* be able to get this modem working, according to some of the sites I've been to, and I've installed setserial, but the fact is, I don't know what I'm doing... and dangit, fumbling around as root makes me nervous.

I used "cat /proc/pci" to find that the modem is on IRQ 5, and I/O 0xb800. In Windows, the modem is using COM3, though whether that carries over into Linux, I don't know. My main problem here is, not only do I not know what I'm doing, but most of the, (albeit extremely informative), guides I've found don't include any information on setup using my distro.

I've just finished getting my nforce drivers successfully installed, so I'm on a bit of a high right now. If anyone could help me out with something like a, say, step by step guide... I'd love them from the bottom of my heart.

Have a look here: //www.pcworld.co.nz/ > Authors > Geoff Palmer > Linux step by step-part 2.Your drivers should be installed in /lib/modules/2.4.22-10mdk.Run lsmod to see if they are loaded,if not use insmod -f to load them.
Set up KPPP,instead of COM3,you should have something like /dev/ttySLTO.
