OK. theres the "newbie" as you people refer to some others... I'm waay beyond that. I am adept at windows, i know the program inside and out. The change came about after watching my computer crash time after time. I thought since I know windows well, linux should be a snap.. was I wrong...
I decided to get me a copy of Mandrake-Linux v10.0. The program itself is wonderful, nay amazing. Wouldn't trade it for the world. This is my problem...
Installing the OS went as it should, Linux detected all my hardware except my modem. It is of the PC-Tel HSP56 variety. I know the hardware is perfectly fine, it will work in my other machines that run windows. Linux picks the piece up as "other devices" and the class is "communications_modem". I have tried almost everything except hitting the machine with a hammer, and from my standpoint, that option is looking much nicer right about now. I have read the other threads on here, and even tried the most of them out. The same end result though: it spits out an error that has to do with "incorrect kernel version." I believe that my version I am running has Kernel 2.6 or something like that. I know its either the newest, or one of the newest. (I'm not on my linux machine, rather my moms silly windows one
) so I cannot check the root directory and what not.
If someone, anyone could find it in their heart to give me some rather detailed instructions, or even a URL where I can find information on installing a PC-Tel HSP56 modem with Kernel 2.6, it would be greatly appreciated.
