Using Motorola Surfboard 5100 USB/Ethernet Cable Modem in Fedora Core 3

Hi

I'm not able to use Motorola Surfboard 5100 USB/Ethernet Cable Modem in Fedora Core 3.

The modem has 2 inputs USB OR Ethernet.

Ethernet-- the manufacturer recommends using ethernet for linux, i'm supposed to use DCHP to configure it or something. I however have no idea of how to do that. I tried configuring it with my ethernet card, FC3 won't allow me to select configuring with DCHP however.

USB--i have read a thread where you can recompile the kernel with changes done for the USB, again I have the faintest idea of how to do that.

Any help would be appreciated, linux without the internet seems like a castrated bull to me and i'm sure no linux fan would like to see that.

:newbie:

Thanks,
