You may also have to run alsamixer and unmute your channels as well as set your default levels. You'll also want to issue an alsactl store to save those settings across a reboot.
good luck. |
Thank you Guru for ur reply on my pevious post,
I tried to run alsamixer, so i did a -------------------------------------------- bash-2.05b$ alsamixer & [1] 15590 bash-2.05b$ alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory --------------------------------------------- and thats the message i got. Why isnt the alsamixer not installed when i installed alsa-driver-1.0.8 ? Do i have to do this seperately? --------------------------------------------- i asked for alsamixer location and i did a --------------------------------------------- bash-2.05b$ locate alsamixer /usr/share/man/man1/alsamixer.1.bz2 /usr/bin/alsamixer ---------------------------------------------- So do i have to install this aswell?seperately.. I would appriciate any help on this ... Thanks in Advance to all... Azzath. |
I believe alsamixer is part of the utilities or tools packages. If it's not installed you can install it or use another mixer. Could you post the output of /sbin/lsmod please?
good luck. |
Guru, this is the output, thank you.

Looks like your system loaded the oss modules. Try kmix or aumix to unmute your sound. Or you can install the alsa packages and drivers, after removing the oss modules.
good luck. |
Peacedog thank you....
Guru, my main purpose in trying to install ALSA is to see is realplayer is producing any sound when i am trying to view news clips on BBC, other than that i can listen and adjust the sound using KMix....I havent got a clue why the sound oesnt produce. when i try to play LQ radio mp3 files, the player exits.. I really am not sure whats going on and now i am kinda lost what more to do... I hate to give up... Please help me if you can to get my realplayer working cuz i miss the news and songs on some sites which will only play with realplayer Thanking you for your time and effort. Regards Azzath. |
