USB Wheel mouse not working

Hello, I am new to Linux and recently connected the USB wheel mouse (optical) with my machine. However, I cannot use the wheel for upward or downward movement. The only thing it does is paste any copied text once I press the wheel. I have used YaST to configure the new mouse and the current settings indicate that 'Activate 3-Button Emulatoin, and 'Activate Mouse Wheel' are checked.

Here is what is written in the xorg.conf file.

Section "InputDevice"
Driver "mouse"
Identifier "Mouse[1]"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "on"
Option "Name" "PS/2 on USB"
Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
Option "Vendor" "USB-Mouse"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards.

Change the protocol from PS/2 to IMPS/2 (or ExplorerPS/2).

Hi,

depending on what mouse you have you will need to add/edit these options:
Code:
Option "Buttons"
Option "ZAxisMapping"
to your InputDevice section

Check out this link:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Mouse_Scrollwheel
it has the correct values for different mouse types.
